The Cox Enterprises corporate headquarters blends the ambience of a traditional corporate environment with 21st century technology. The facility portrays Cox’s corporate brand for quality and excellence. The urban campus includes a 420,000 square foot office tower, 94,557 square foot Commons Building and a 1,154 space parking deck. Cox’s investment in their people is evident in the elaborate finishes and gracious space allocated in the office tower. Key features include executive offices, corporate offices, a state-of-the-art training facility, a full-service cafeteria, a fitness room, and a two-story pre-function rotunda. The pedestrian friendly campus includes a lavish garden surrounded by a walking path.
Coordination of the design presented a unique challenge throughout the project. Three architects were involved in the design, a design architect, base building architect and an interior architect. During preconstruction, we carefully evaluated each value analysis item and the impact an item had on the other designers documents. As the design was completed, we performed a constructability review to ensure the finishes, reveals, floor elevations and other adjacent materials work with the new information. In several cases, we modified work to match the field conditions. Millwork joints were modified after the stone was in fabrication requiring field changes to the stone. Full size mock-ups allowed us to view products and conditions prior to full scale installation.
We built our team with the knowledge of the quality expectations and the coordination challenges between the designers. We dedicated two teams to the project, one focused on the base building construction, and the other dedicated to the tenant fit-out. Daily coordination on-site facilitated smooth construction and minimized coordination issues in the field.
Holder has continued to support the changes to the facility made by Cox through an On-Call Services program. We have maintained a 10 year relationship with Cox providing preconstruction and construction services in all their building on large and small renovations and upgrades.
